CALL FOR PAPERS (Deadline: October 1, 2015)
The Fourth International Symposium on Chinese Language and Discourse is a biennial symposium that advances the exchange of scholarship and emphasizes an empirical orientation in discourse functional studies of the Chinese language. Paper proposals are invited to showcase latest advancements in, but not limited to, the following topic areas:
Corpus studies
Discourse and grammar
Language acquisition and education
Language change and development
Language and cognition
Language contact
Language and culture
Language and interaction
language and new media
Language and society
Multilingualism and identity construction
The working language of the symposium will be either English or Mandarin Chinese.
Proposal Submission Guidelines
Deadline for submission of abstracts: October 1, 2015
Notification of acceptance: December 1, 2015
Registration
Registration starts on January 1, 2016.The registration fee is $190.00 for general and $100.00 for students before April 1, 2016 to cover the meals, tea/coffee, and refreshments. Late (after April 1, 2016) or on-site registrations will be charged at $230.00 .
Accommodations
Participants will stay on campus, in the senior student townhouse, with $48.70 per night for three nights. Extension of one or two nights is possible with requests.

The Fourth International Symposium on Chinese Language and Discourse is co-sponsored by the Bryant University’s Office of Academic Affairs and U.S.-China Institute/Confucius Institute. Bryant is located in Smithfield, Rhode Island, which is 15 minutes to Providence, 1 hour to Boston and 3 hours to New York City. There are hourly buses and trains from Providence to Boston and New York City. Founded in 1863, Bryant University consists of two colleges: College of Arts & Sciences and College of Business. Emerging as a leader in international education, Bryant supports a network of international collaborations. In addition to the U.S.-China Institute and the Confucius Institute that forge academic, business, and cultural partnerships between Bryant and China, the university is planning for a cooperative program in Zhuhai (珠海) to build a stronger bridge for two way educational exchange between Bryant and China.
