讲座摘要：
Although the language testing literature frequently refers to diagnostic tests as identifying learners’ strengths and weaknesses, very few truly diagnostic tests exist. Diagnosis of foreign language learners’ strengths and weaknesses seems to be left up to the classroom teacher, yet in contrast to first language education, foreign language teachers receive little or no training in how to go about diagnosing such strengths and weaknesses, particularly in foreign language reading and listening. In this presentation I will first describe the role of test purpose in establishing test validity. I will then describe and discuss what might be called the principles of diagnosis, deriving from a study of diagnosis in a range of academic and professional fields. Finally I will elaborate on these principles by examining how they might be applied in the case of reading and listening in a second or foreign language.

主讲人简介：

J. Charles Alderson教授是国际著名的语言测试专家，他执教于英国兰卡斯特大学(Lancaster University)语言学与英语教育系。他曾受邀在世界50多个国家任教、讲学或担任语言教育项目顾问，是一位有丰富的理论知识又极具实践经验的语言测试工作者。他曾担任雅思考试 (IELTS) 改革项目组组长、欧洲委员会DIALANG语言测评项目组总负责人，并曾主编国际语言测试刊物Language Testing和剑桥语言测试系列丛书Cambridge Language Assessment Series。 Alderson教授的主要著作 Language Test Construction and Evaluation (1995)、Assessing Reading (2000)、Diagnosing Foreign Language Proficiency: The Interface between Learning and Assessment (2005)、The Diagnosis of Reading in a Second or Foreign Language(2015)等是语言测试工作者的必读书目。
