TESOL International Association is assembling a community of like-minded ELT professionals to talk about ways we can all unplug from classroom technology. TESOL is pleased to announce that this event is being organized in partnership with Nile TESOL and The American University in Cairo.

Program Overview

This symposium will discuss the tension between media- and technology-rich classroom environments and building on emergent language in a "natural" environment.

This discussion is especially appropriate in the Egyptian context, where many teachers operate in environments with few resources, large classes, and competing demands of students (jobs, families, etc.). It is also relevant in the broader debate about whether an approach focusing on emergent language with few classroom materials can work in a context like Egypt, where students might have more specific needs and expectations.
