中国与西方：跨越语言的不同视角
本次会议定于2014年4月12日-13日在中国北京召开，由英国语文学会主办，北京外国语大学外国语言研究所及中国海外汉学研究中心联合承办。会议的宗旨是为中西方不同学术传统的语言研究者在下述领域架设沟通的桥梁：
汉藏和印欧语系的谱系及历史
1. 中国和西方语言学史
2. 汉藏和印欧语系内部和彼此之间的语言接触
3. 特定语言的历史，包括语音变化，语义变化，语法化以及书写系统的变化
汉藏和印欧语言的结构
1. 中国和西方的语言学理论及其应用与发展
2. 对特定语言的类型学研究
3. 对特定语言的对比研究
汉藏与印欧语言的习得
1. 中国和西方的语言学习与教学理论
2. 第一与第二语言习得之间的差异
3. 中国和西方的语言规划与政策
与会者
本次会议将邀请三位大会发言人就上述三个主题发言。与会者总数将限于50人左右，分成三个主题组，每位与会者有30-40分钟宣讲本人论文。
论文提要
拟参会者须在2013年10月15日前提交不超过500个英文词的论文提要。提要如被接受，正式邀请函将于2013年12月31日前发出。
会议费
英国语文学会会员的会议费为500人民币（大致相当于50英镑或75美元），非会员的会议费为1000人民币（大致相当于100英镑或150美元）。
研究生资助
英国语文学会将为少数向会议提交论文的研究生提供资助，受资助者须符合英国语文学会旅费资助计划的资格标准（标准详情及申请程序见英国语文学会网站www.philsoc.org.uk）。资助人数极为有限，且须待提交提要的截止日期之后才能向获得资助者发出通知。英国语文学会资助申请的截止日期为2013年10月1日，须同时提交一份论文提要。
会议场所及住宿
会议将在北京外国语大学东院逸夫楼举行；与会者可下榻于位于北外西院的北外宾馆或附近其他宾馆，费用自理。

China and the West: cross-linguistic perspectives
This conference will be held in Beijing, China on the 12th and 13th of April 2014. Sponsored by the Philological Society of the UK and hosted by the Institute of Linguistics in conjunction with National Research Centre of Overseas Sinology, Beijing Foreign Studies University, the conference aims at bridging communication gaps between language scholars from different traditions in China and the West in the following areas:
The genealogies and histories of Sino-Tibetan and Indo-European languages
1. Histories of linguistics in China and the West
2. Language contact within and between the two language families
3. Histories of particular languages, including sound change, semantic change, grammaticalization and writing systems
The structures of Sino-Tibetan and Indo-European languages
1. Linguistic theories in China and the West, their applications and development
2. Typological studies of particular languages
3. Contrastive studies of particular languages
Acquisition of Sino-Tibetan and Indo-European languages
1. Language learning and teaching theories in China and the West
2. Differences between the acquisitions of first and second languages
3. Language planning and policy in China and the West
Participants
There will be three invited plenary speakers at the conference, one on each of the above themes. The total number of participants will be limited to around 50, to be divided into three theme groups. Each participant will have 30-40 minutes to present their paper.
Abstracts
Those who wish to give papers at the conference should submit their abstracts in no more than 500 English words before 15 October 2013. If the abstract is accepted, a formal letter of invitation will be issued before 31 December 2013.
Fees
A fee of ¥500 Chinese (roughly equivalent to £50 British pounds or $75 US dollars) will be charged to members of the Philological Society participating in the conference. For non-members, the fee will be ¥1000 (roughly equivalent to £100 British pounds or $150 US dollars).
Postgraduate bursaries
The Philological Society is able to offer financial support to a small number of postgraduate students offering papers at the conference, provided that they meet the eligibility criteria of the Philological Society's travel bursary scheme (details of the criteria and application procedure can be found on the Society's website, www.philsoc.org.uk). The number of awards made will be strictly limited and it will not be possible to notify successful applicants until after the deadline for submission of abstracts. Bursary applications to the Society should be made by 1st October 2013 and should be accompanied by a copy of the abstract.
Venue & accommodation
The conference will be held in the Run Run Shaw Building on the east campus of Beijing Foreign Studies University. Conference participants will be accommodated at their own expense in Beiwai Hotel on the west campus of the University and other nearby hotels.
