His major areas of scholarship are rhetorical criticism, social movements, and the history of American political discourse. In recent years, his thinking and writing have become increasingly intercultural as he has worked with Chinese universities in the development of English public speaking and rhetorical studies more generally. His main works include The Art of Public Speaking，Portents of Rebellion: Rhetoric and Revolution in Philadelphia & #40;1765-1776& #41;，Words of A Century: The Top 100 American Speeches.

上海外国语大学英语学院副教授，博士，独立并参与编写多部英语教材和辞典。2003年前往英国剑桥大学游学，2008至2009年前往美国威斯康辛大学麦迪逊总校访学，师承美国演讲学之父Stephen E. Lucas教授。回国后指导了许多学生荣获各大英语演讲赛事的一等奖和冠军，2011年在外研社举办的“英语演讲教师研修班”上为全国各大高校的英语演讲教师传授讲课经验，并在外研社的相关研讨会上发言。现担任全国英语演讲辩论教学与研究委员会常务理事。
